The one with the trip to 's-Hertogenbosch

Last saturday I had lunch with some old school friends (or oldschool friends?) in the city of 's-Hertogenbosch. I lived there for almost 2 years and it's one of my favourite cities. Lots of places with good food and drinks, small streets and a Zara (which we don't have over here). There's also a store where you can gush over shoes like Louboutins and a store that's named 'the Chocolate Company'.

The one were I didn't get to go to Amsterdam

The two vikings in the first picture watch out over the trainstation in Arnhem, where I met up with my girls for a high tea. After many cups of tea and lots (and lots) of yummy treats, the plan was to travel to Amsterdam by train. The Dutch Railways were having some hiccups, so that was a mission impossible. I got stranded at trainstation Ede-Wageningen, where I came across a cool dude with his lollipop. After one and a half hour of  patiently waiting, I gave up any hope that a train was going to get me to Amsterdam any time soon, and decided the best plan might be to go back home again.

The one with 'Ondersteboven'

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by Jolijn, asking me if I would like to sell some of my items in her shop. She runs a 'real' brick and mortar shop in my town's city center. The name of the shop is Ondersteboven (which is the Dutch word for upside down), and it's the perfect place for finding graphic art, vintage, zines, music, gifts and stationery. Last saturday I dropped of some shoppingbags, notebooks and postcards. More info about the shop can be found here.

The one with the baking experiment

Last weekend I experimented with some baking. I didn't use a cookbook for this one, but took my grandmothers 'normal' cake recipe, and added some tasty extras.

Here's what went in it:
- 200 grams of butter
- 3 free range eggs
- 2 cups of flour
- 2 cups of cane sugar
- 8 chopped up dates
- 50 grams of chopped up dark chocolate
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- a pinch of salt

Here's what I did:
I started by preheating the oven at 170 ÂșC. I mixed the butter and sugar in a large bowl with the hand mixer, till creamy. Then I added the sugar, baking powder and a pinch of salt. After that I mixed the flour in, bit by bit. With a wooden spoon, I stirred in the chocolate and the dates. I poured the batter in a buttered caketin and baked it for about 50 minutes. The last 15 minutes I covered the tin with a sheet of tin foil.

This is how it tasted:
Not to toot my own horn, but it tasted pretty good! Next time I will add more chocolate and dates.
I love the pretty packaging of the dates, and the fact that they are lucky!
Have you baked something good lately?
