The one with an after work walk

A couple of weeks ago I decided to take a different route home from work. These are some of the things I found on my walk. It still amazes me how many wonderful spots my hometown has!

The one in Amsterdam

Last saturday I met up with Hans in Amsterdam. We met 7 years ago in Salamanca, where we both did in Spanish language course. Every now and then we meet for lunch or dinner, and in between those meet ups, we write old fashioned postcards. If you stumble upon photos of pretty stamp on this blog, they are often ones I received from Hans.

Amsterdam Central Station, designed by Pierre Cuypers,
the architect who also designed the famous Rijksmuseum.

Normally, we meet in the city of Utrecht but this time we choose Amsterdam. Hans was born and raised in Amsterdam, so it was nice to go there with someone who knows the city well. For lunch I had roti from Suriname, with potatoes, string beans and spicy sauce. A dish our old neighbour used to make, and I haven't had in years. It tasted just as good as I remembered!

I think this door already appeared on this blog some time ago. But I think it's pretty enough for a second feature. It's a door of the Oude Kerk ('old church'), which is the oldest building in Amsterdam (founded in 1213, according to Wikipedia). Located in the very touristy red light district.

I love all the pretty architectural details in Amsterdam, like this boat

De Waag (weigh house)

Loved this pair of balloons :-)

As a dessert, Hans treated me to a bonbon.
(I choose dark chocolate with a mojito filling)

Sunny day and flowers

Something more I like about spring / summer

Wonder if it's as good on the inside!

Spending time at the thrift store and the library got me these

Another pretty bike in the streets

And receiving mail with good looking stamps

The one with (more) doors

As you might know, I have a thing for doors. When taking little walks across town, I am always on the look out for pretty ones. I haven't done any door-post so far this year (I did a couple of them last year, here and here), so I think a post dedicated to the beautiful ones found is in order. Hope you'll love them as much as I do!

Do you see the hands?

The above door is a winner, except for the hands, it has one more little surprise. I have seen quite the amount of door knockers, but I have never seen one that is shaped like a cow!

Only, this was last thursday, but thursday fry-day doesn't sound like much fun, does it?

My aunt and uncle stopped by at work, and brought these

The one with the things I liked this week (105)

I already made this post yesterday, but forgot to hit the publish button. Today I woke up with a bad case of the sniffles, so maybe that was already simmering yesterday.... I'll leave home for a bit to celebrate friend L's birthday and then I'll go straight back to bed with a cup of tea and a book. I've really had enough of all the cold we've been having lately and the snow we had last week. I am ready for spring. Hope the sniffles haven't found you, and that you're having a great weekend so far.

Looking up

 Working on some new notebooks

I was team starter this month at the cooking club, we made pea-soup accompanied by toast with fish

And working another door into a 'things I liked post' :-)
