Each year in july, my hometown hosts the international Four Days Marches. Around 40.000 people from all over the world travel to Nijmegen and walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometers daily, for four days long. On the saturday before the marches, till the friday after, the are also all sorts of festivities throughout the city. Concerts, a fair, theatre, beer and lots of fatty foods. Last sunday I got up early to have a walk around town, before it was taken over by party people and sporty march participants. I took lose of photo's, here's a selection.
Sounds like a fun time! Love the ferris wheel and the metal bicycle :)
ReplyDeleteWow, what an interesting festival! Is there a reason or historical event behind the Four Days Marches? I had never heard of it. Love the shots of your hometown!
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about the history, but the first marches were in 1909 and it was a military event.
DeleteGreat photos! And what a cool event! That's wonderful that so many people come to participate.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Love the weird wall art and the ivy covered houses, and really everything else too. I think I'd like to visit your town. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks a bit creepy to me, the wall thing. I like weird, but I am happy it's a bit of a walk to my place :-)
DeleteLooks like fun and I love the scenery. I can't get enough of artwork on buildings. I just think it so cool! And artistic!!!
ReplyDeleteNice pics!
ReplyDeleteYour photo's are wonderful. Your hometown looks like a lovely place to live.
ReplyDeleteCool photos, Marieken!
ReplyDeleteI love the old bycicle. You found some odd but interesting street art too :)
Seriously awesome. What's up with those crazy sinks?! Those are super cool!
ReplyDeleteNothing like marching 40K only to fill up on fatty snacks ;)
I wonder what's up with them too! Why are they there? Who put them up there?
