Recently, my mom and I spent an afternoon in the local museum. An exhibition just opened, named 'photography extended'. For the description of this exhibition, I'm going to use the description the museum uses: "this exhibition focuses on premeditated photography: work of Dutch origin that has arisen in a conditioned situation, with a preconceived plan and an artistic premise as its starting point." Some of my favourites are the ones that look like paintings from the 17th century, but are actually photographs of the photographers daughter wearing everyday objects as accessories, like a plastic bag hat and one that's made of bubblewrap.
Besides the photographs, there were also bags to be seen. Bags designed and made from recycled materials by high school students. They started out with a piece of fabric made by a graffiti artist and items given by local shopkeepers, like shoelaces, kitchen utensils, a shoe and corsages. They had to add an item or material that they liked. The bags were auctioned for charity.
You can find the museum's website
here.

I can imagine walking around the exhibit immersing myself in each piece - it must have been a such an enjoyable day for you. I'm drawn to the photo of the girls hiding under the table - there is a story being told there. The wealth of creative genius in our world in limitless.
ReplyDeleteWow! Look at all those bags! I could have spent the entire day right there at that spot! Thanks for sharing the great pictures.
ReplyDeleteInteresting exhibit. I love that photo of the kids under the table!
ReplyDeleteThose bags are amazing + it's awesome that they're auctioned. we had an exhibit in Seattle called "plastics unwrapped", and while I loved that it was based around plastics and our waste, it totally would have been more effective if it did something like this!
I love the upcycled bags!
ReplyDeletenice;)
ReplyDeleteYou always visit the neatest places -I'm jealous! I love the first set of photographs -I wonder how many people glanced at them without realizing it was a lamp shade or bubble wrap. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI love days at the museum. The portraits are so cool and beautiful! I also love that one of those kids and all the water.
