The one with Nigella's almond cake and the high tea

Last weekend was high tea-time with a couple of girlfriends. We all made something, and I opted for Nigella's 'easy almond cake'. It wasn't very difficult to make, but easy, no. The cake has marzipan in it, and it was hard work to mix it in with the rest of the ingredients. The cake isn't exactly healthy, so the workout for the upper arms was very welcome. Instead of the vanilla extract I added lemon zest. It was worth the effort, and like Nigella's other recipes, tasted very good. The other goodies are the result of my friends' cooking experiments.

The one with the cauliflower

A very deliciously looking cauliflower-soup caught my eye on Pinterest. It didn't taste half as good as it looked. Normally, I don't say no to a second bowl, but with this one I did. I didn't use the whole cauliflower, so the rest of it was turned into a salad the next day. This one did taste well. I tossed in some lettuce, arugula, red bell pepper, radishes, danish blue cheese and a mustard-honey-dressing.

The one with a little bit of spring

Last weekend was full of wind, rain and low temperatures.
I did see a little bit of spring. Hoping to see lots more very soon!

The one with the things I liked this week (part 6)

an attempt at eating healthy things
Ok, I failed in the healthy department, but I thought this would be
my last cup of hot chocolate before spring really starts. Unfortunately, more
snow is being predicted for this weekend (so there might be more of these)
on the streets
easter is near
I am having a ma-jor crush on this coat. Even though it's for boys, I can
see it totally be worn with skinny jeans and bright ballet flats

The one with sad lemon cake

On my last trip to the library, my eye was caught by a book named 'the particular sadness of lemon cake'. My reading choices are mostly based on the cover and the title. More often than not, these weren't the best choices (I know, you shouldn't judge...). But this one sounded promising, words describing the book on the back are: 'beautiful writing', 'extraordinary' and 'oddly beautiful'.
Before taking books home with me, I read the first page at the library, and there was baking of cake on this books' first page. So, this was a book that was going home with me. The book is about Rose, a nine year old who has a special gift. She can taste the emotions of the maker of the food she eats. I just started (I'm at page 70), and I want to know more. What are you currently reading? Reading tips are very welcome.

The one with the flowers

I am not a rainbow and unicorn kind of girl, I like my clothes dark and studded, with a little bit of leather every now and then. My music of choice in winter is mostly Damien Rice and the Perishers. But when the sun starts shining and the days are getting longer, things change. I love the first day when you notice your winter coat is too warm. I like the singing of birds in the morning (though I am afraid of them) and I recently added some colour to my wardrobe. Small things like green leaves on trees and flowers in bloom make me happy. My sunglasses are ready for when I need them and I am looking forward to wearing ballet flats and eating icecream again. Here's a collection of colourful and floral things I found on Etsy.

The one with Dorothy Parker

Lately, I've seen lots of Dorothy Parker quotes floating around on Pinterest that made me smile. I wondered who this woman was, who said things like 'this wasn't just plain terrible, this was fancy terrible, this was terrible with raisins in it'. She has even been quoted by Sheldon Cooper. In my search for information about Dorothy, I came across this very lovely poem.

Do you have a favourite poet and/or poem?

The one with the skull T

I am in love with everything studded, from shoes to jackets and from bags to tees. They just add a little bit of extra oomph to about everything. Back in november I treated myself to a whole bunch of studs, my favourites were the skull-shaped ones. Four months later I finally used some of them for a little DIY-project. I used a simple grey, cotton H&M shirt. All I need now is a bit of sunshine, so I can wear short sleeved shirts again.
