The one with the things I liked this week (part 44)

Things I liked this week were wise words on walls, going over to friends to play boardgames and drink tea (acompanied by sweets), a gorgeous rusty and chipped green bike and more pretty lights in trees.

The one with the eye bracelet DIY

One of the things I've been loving for I while now, is the 'Kenzo eye'. This tutorial is inspired by this super awesome print. Another thing I love, is a DIY-project that doesn't need a lot of supplies, tools, or time. For this one, the only thing I needed to get, were beads, the rest was already within reach. This bracelet doesn't take much time to make, you just need a bit of time let the nailpolish dry.

The inspiration:

What you'll need:
  • elastic cord
  • blue nailpolish
  • black nailpolish
  • beads, I used white wooden beads, and one in a contrasting colour
  • a bit of glue

Start by making a blue circle on each of the white beads, let them dry

Make a small black circle in the middle of the blue circle

Start beading away! After the last 'eye' make a knot with the two ends.
Secure with a drop of glue. Cover the knot up with one of the beads.

The one with the things I liked this week (part 43)

I've found some interesting things on my sunday walk, like a critter that appears to be some sort of owl. Someone has been painting several woodland animals across town like this badger and this fox. Other than that, I've began reading the Dutch version of the 'fault in our stars' by John Green, so far, it's good. Sorry for the cheese photo. I just like cheese. A lot.

The one with the door knockers

Two weeks ago, I blogged about a visit to Utrecht. On our walk through the city, we came across some wonderful looking door knockers. I love beautiful doors! Like to see more? I have a whole pinboard filled with beautiful doors of here.

The one with the brussels sprouts pesto

As most kids, I used to dislike brussels sprouts when I was young. Fortunately for me, my mom also didn't like these miniature cabbages, so I didn't have to eat them very often. A couple of years ago, I discoved that they can actually taste pretty good! They are quite the healthy guys, containing vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid and dietary fibre. Also, they contain sinigrin, which is believed to protect against colon cancer.

What you'll need (dinner for 4)
  • 350 grams of brussel sprouts
  • 2 (small) cloves of garlic
  • 6 tablespoons of roasted pinenuts
  • lots of extra virgin olive oil (around 1/4 cup)
  • pasta for four
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 60 grams of grated parmesan cheese for the pesto, plus extra for the pasta.

Wash the brussels sprouts, remove the bottoms, the outside leaves and slice in half. Bring a large pan of salted water to a boil, add the sprouts and cook them for 3 minutes. Take them out of the pan, into a colander and let them cool down. If you're in a hurry, you can rinse them with cold water.

Prepare the pasta, as said on the packaging. While the pasta is cooking, Toss together the brussels sprouts, garlic, the pine nuts, and grated cheese in a blender, and mix until it's smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Add the pesto to the pasta and serve with extra cheese on top.

The one with the things I liked this week (part 42)

For these 'things I like' posts I normally post photo's I've taken throughout the week. This week, all of the things I liked, are from my home. When the days get shorter, and the temperatures drop, I turn into a couch potato and I love to spend time indoors with a good book, or catching up on some of my favourite tv shows.

I got the print of the blue building in the first photo a while ago, from Mary's Society6 shop. As a new seller on Society6 I wanted to know how the prints look, how fast it ships, how it's packaged and how the paper feels (it looks super, ships fast, it's shipped in a cardboard tube and the paper is very sturdy). I love Mary's eye for super cool things and I am very happy with the print. I still need to get some frames though!

In the third photo is a tea set that was a gift from my friends' mother. It's a family heirloom, but my friend didn't like it, and she knew I would. The (very) vintage bible in the fourth photo was my grandfather's. He died before I was born, and I like having a little piece of family history at home.

The one with all the art

Here is the third collection of gift ideas (1 and 2 are here). This one is filled with gorgeous and affordable art. All of them are under € 10,- (14 USD).

I am most excitited about the Charlotte's web art print. Charlotte's web was my favourite movie as a kid. Not the one with real people and real animals, but the cartoon version. It's a bit odd that I liked this movie so much, because I have had the most terrible fear of spiders for as long as I can remember. What's your favourite childhood movie? And do you have any special works of art to cheer up your walls?

Enough talk. Without further ado, I present to you: art!

The one with the fancy pants DIY

One of my favourite websites is Jak & Jil, and that's where the inspiration for this easy DIY projects comes from. I often wear rolled up trousers (I am not that tall). I loved the idea of giving my old jeans a bit of va-va-voom. I got the trimming from Atelier Lunathanks Eefje!

What you'll need:
  • trimming
  • scissors
  • clear nailpolish
  • hobby glue, I used E6000
  • a pair of jeans

Cut the trimming the right size so it fits the back part of the trouser leg.
Keep it from running with the help of clear nailpolish.

turn your trousers inside out and apply the trimming with glue

Let the glue dry

And they're ready to wear!
