The one with the things I liked this week (136)

Lunch and a walk in Amsterdam with friend H. We hadn't seen eachother for a long time, so lots of catching up to do. I loved the trainride to Amsterdam, so I had some time to get some reading done.

A happy mailbox and a hungry me! Thanks Diane :-)

Seeing this car on my way to the mailbox. I think it gets rustier each time we meet

I managed to get one of the plants killed I got a couple of weeks ago. Poor thing. My neighbours do have green thumbs though, and I can enjoy the goodies that are on their balcony, like this one.

Made me smile, never knew that's what they were supposed to look like!

Enjoy your sunday! I'll have breakfast somewhere good, and the plan is to visit our local museum. What are your plans for today?

The one with beads and clothespins

The last DIY that appeared on this blog, was over three months ago. I think a new one might be in order by now! With these longer days, I feel more like actually doing things, opposed to those days in winter, that are mostly spend in couch potato mode. So prepare for more DIY posts! I love sending and receiving mail. The newest ones get displayed somewhere around the house, and I thought it was time for a little project involving mail.

What I've used:

  • 40 wooden beads (1 centimeter)
  • 4 wooden clothes pins
  • 75 centimeters of baker's twine

Start with laying out your beads and clothespins, to see how they'll end up (especially if you are using beads in different sizes or different colours). I decided they worked best for me with 5 beads, a clothespin, 10 beads, a clothespin, 10 beads, a clothespin, 10 beads, a clothespin and ending with 5 beads again.

Make a loop by making a double knot on one end of the twine, as pictured

Start beading away!

The edge of the twine can be hidden in the first bead

End the same way you started, by making a loop

Et voila!

I was on a roll, and made a couple of these puppies. Have you made something cool lately? Please feel free to share a link in the comments below. More DIY's can be found over here.

The one with the washi tape card DIY

A couple of sundays ago I wanted to make something easy, without needing lots of supplies and without making a big mess. I thought it might be fun to make some postcards.

What you'll need:
  • Paper the size of a postcard, I used kraftpaper
  • washi tape, in different colours
  • a black fineliner
  • scissors
  • a ruler (this one's an old souvenir granny got me from Germany over 20 years ago)

Start by sticking washitape to your paper, don't worry if you tape the paper to your workspace. This might even work in your advantage when you start the drawing part of this DIY :-)

Make stripes above and underneath the tape, using your ruler

Make diagonal stripes, or any other pattern that floats your boat. I didn't use my ruler for this part.

Peel your card of the table and cut off the washi tape.

Make rounded edges using a roll of tape, pen, and scissors

And that's all! Have you been creating something lately? Please feel free to share a link in the comments below, I love seeing what you've been up to! More how-to's can be found over here.

The one with the things I liked this week (60)

Some random photos of this week. I've had the idea of adding some new notebooks to my Etsy shop for a while. I thought it might look cool to make covers out of photo's I've taken and I've experimented with different kinds of paper and machine settings. One of my moms cats offered a bit of help :-)
My friend Mandy brought over a box of very delicious chocolates, thanks sweetie! Other than that, I've started Postcrossing again some time ago. This week I received four cards, from Finland, Germany and the United States. I always feel like it's my birthday when I get home after work, open my mailbox, and find something good in there! The last picture is proof that I sometimes do eat other things than cheese, chocolate and cake. You might have gotten the wrong impression from this blog....

The one with the things I liked this week (59)

Last weekend started with cheese. One of the first things I got done on saturday was to get cheese. The first photo appeared on my Instagram as well. Some of the cheeses didn't make it there, because the image needed to be made square. The original photo is in my weekly collection of things I liked, because I feel bad for the eliminated cheeses. Don't worry, not all of them were taken home. My weekend also ended with cheese, I made cheese rolls for dinner on sunday. The recipe will probably end up here on the blog next week.
A while ago I did a little postcard swap with Natasha, and this week I received a lovely Hawaiian card. There were some gorgeous stamps on the back. I wish we had pretty stamps like that over here.
At my mom's I've found a lovely, very vintage-y map, that is now hanging in my living room. Other things I liked, were found on the streets. I've been taking slightly different routes back home from work and taking small walks before dinner. The longer days are definitely one of the things I like most about spring and summer. How was your week?
