Woke up way early yesterday and received a message from M, if I wanted to go thrift shopping. The washing machine was already doing it's thing, so with the mandatory sunday housekeeping being taken care of (I'm not a very ambitious housewife on sundays...), I thought I deserved a bit of fun. Each weekend there's a flea market in an old factory nearby. In the third photo you can see the church that also can be seen from my kitchen window. The factory stopped being a factory (it used to make wheat starch, for soups) two years ago and serves lots of purposes now. A 'mixture of commercial, creative and cultural tennants' (according to the website, only in Dutch), now inhabit the factory.
The flea market was a bit of a let down. Items for sale were way overprized or in bad shape. The building itself made up for the thrifting disaster. Even though it was raining, I dodged most of the raindrops and managed to take some photos (I will definitely go back again if the sun decides to show it's face again)(hopefully some time soon!).
We had coffee with apple crumble and on the way back to the car we accidentally ended up at an exhibition about archeology somewhere in the building. I love not making any special plans and seeing where the weekend takes me. How were your saturday and sunday? Do you like planning ahead? If you feel like sharing, I'd love to read about your weekend-adventures in the comments below!
I love when independent shops open in old factory buildings, in fact one of my dreams is having a craft shop in one..some day :)ReplyDelete
Non stop rain here too! Is that apple crumble? Yum!
Yes, crumble! I think it's a perfect way to use the factory now. I need to go back soon when the weather's better and see more of what it has to offer.Delete
"make today ridiculously amazing" I love that!!!!! You find the coolest places to visit. :0)ReplyDelete
That floor rocked!Delete
Hahahaha, love that coffee sign! Successful marketing, because that alone would make me go in there. :-)ReplyDelete
Our weekend was busy! I like to have a mixture of planned activities and free time, but this weekend we had more plans than normal. It was fun, but now I'm pretty tired.
We were planning to have a coffee, but I sure would have wanted to go because of the sign.Delete
I love spontaneous weekend adventures too. Always makes things more interesting! We ended up at a wedding dress exhibition and a cream tea this weekend and finally watched 12 Years a Slave :) Love that photo of the coffee sign and the yellow door too. xReplyDelete
Still have to watch that one too! I am a bit out of the whole movie thing, but got a stash of dvd's at the library yesterday. Watched zero dark thirty yesterday, and now Moonrise Kingdom is playing. I am curious about the dress exhibition. Sounds like fun!Delete
Love the look of the building! And the coffee sign is just cool.ReplyDelete
I went to a thrift market on Sunday and bought a few little things: some small wooden toys, a couple of tiny tin boxes and some old linens. Then I went have falafel in my favourite spot along the canal.
That building looks very cool!ReplyDelete
Sunday I went to a thrift market too. It was quite good, I got a few small things: some wooden toys, a couple of tiny tin boxes and some old linens.
Then I went to have falafel at my favourite place on the canal.
I love tiny tin boxes! I've gotten a couple of them lately. I think I've seen those wooden toys on your instagram, they look lovely!Delete
What a neat building! And such a great way to utilize the old space. I always hate when interesting buildings are just left vacant to deteriorate.ReplyDelete
I'm all for recycling, so for buildings too. They're so much more interesting than the buildings that are built nowadays.Delete
I usually plan ahead but it's nice every now and then to just get up and go. Everyone says the flea markets here aren't as good as they used to be anymore because it's over saturated with people trying to sell random things. Kind of makes sense. I love that building--would just want to go see it!ReplyDelete
I think I should visit flea markets outside of town. I do enjoy treasure hunting and making cool discoveries :-)Delete
Is it the coffee house you told me about? It looks great! To bad the thrift market wasn't what you expected.ReplyDelete
Yes it is! We should definitely go there, you'll like it too!Delete
Ah, this was a common "pre-child" "pre-husband" type thing for me to do. Now the toddler that is in to everything prevents a lot of weekend exploring. It's all toddler friendly places only. I love old factories, the inverse relationships of decay and decline with the the steady take over of nature. Love it.ReplyDelete
So do I, but we don't have many of them in the area I live in.Delete
Sounds like a wonderful weekend! I love the quote written on the floor :)ReplyDelete
I had a bridal shower and two graduation parties Saturday. Then 3 family get-togethers for Mother's Day...busy, busy!
Sounds like a busy weekend, I hope you enjoyed the parties and the get-togethers :-)Delete
Sounds like a great weekend and I love that coffee shop sign - giggle! We usually have a few things pre-planned but mostly we like to go with the flow of how we feel on the day:) Love those photos, sweetie.ReplyDelete
Isn't that sign the coolest?Delete
I'm sorry the thrifting was unsuccesful, but the factory looks awesome! I love the yellow door, and the writing on the floor is really cool too. I did an art project on abandoned places (I feel like I've already told you this?) and I would have been all over this factory! Since working from home I don't really have weekends and all the days blend into one. I definitely miss having two guilt free days of exploring and crafting! xxReplyDelete
Yes, you told me! If you're ever in need of a subject for your blog, I'd love to read some more about your art project :-)Delete
Looks like you had great time! Love the Yellow Door:) ...that coffee shop sign is hilarious! we also like making quick plans like this sometimes!ReplyDelete
We spent the last weekend staying at home and just relaxing...and baking some glazed lemon cupcakes:)
