The one with King's Day (2015)

Last week, on monday, we celebrated King's Day in the Netherlands. The King's birthday is april 27th and is a national holiday. Each year a different city is hosting a party that's attended by the King and his family. Festivities throughout the whole country include flea markets and concerts. Most people dress up in orange (our national colour) and lots of us eat 'tompoucen'. Previous King's Day posts are here and here.

After skipping the flea market last year, I decided to go again this year, who knows what kind of treasuries where waiting to be discovered! I woke up pretty early (for a holiday), filled my pockets with small change, took my camera and wheeled off to the park. Treasuries? Not so much. Entertaining? Yes!

Loved these big metal letters

The annual flea market is the perfect place to get rid of collections that were
coveted in the past, like these eggholders

 and these cars

 I even spotted some streetart!

I ended up with a vintage childrens' bible (for the pretty and colourful illustrations)
and an old enamel coffee cup, that might end up as a pencil holder, or a plant pot.

And I regretted not buying this puzzle with super cool drawings

After the flea market I had lunch with granny and mom, who both like cheese as much as I do!

And after lunch I watched the festivities visited by the King and his family. Doesn't the Queen look gorgeous? Her cape is supposedly by Zara, I love the fact that she doesn't exclusively wear designer clothes.

Fun in the park, don't we look just like the King and Queen?

  5. I'm a huge fan of Queen Maxima. I follow a couple of royal fashion blogs and she always wears the most interesting outfits. I like that she's a little different!

  6. Flea markets are so much fun! You never know what you will find. That is very cool that the queen does not always wear designers. It is the same with our president's wife. She has been seen wearing clothing from inexpensive stores and wearing them proudly!

  8. Kings day looks awesome! Although I always find it weird that Royal families still exist in places like Britain and the Netherlands. Not that I object to them particularly, I'm just not really sure what they do! I love a good flea market and your cup looks super cute xx

    1. A monarchy may not be very modern, but I think it has its charm, and I am a big fan of tradition :-)

  14. I love members of the royalty who also wear non-designer or non-signature labels. It makes me feel like they are telling us that they are also one of us. :) it also makes me realise that looking beautiful sometimes don't need to be expensive. although in my country, zara pieces are very expensive already. Oh blame all the transport, customs and other taxes
